A New Year

2018 is going to be an exciting year. A year of meeting new people, traveling to unfamiliar places and experiencing the rich heritage of Mexico. My goals for 2018 are to improve my Spanish language skills and of course expanding my photographic horizons. I will be working on several new conceptual approaches showcasing the vibrant and dynamic spirit of San Miguel. Look for new work postings later this month.

Moving to Mexico in 2017 was fun but exhausting. Even with a lot of preparation, there were times when things didn’t go as planned. Being calm and flexiable helps but there were unexpected events like a hurricane and having to deal with an overloaded trailer that added to the intensity of moving. Once we arrived in Mexico it was quickly apparent that we needed to improve our language skills. It’s one thing to go to a tourist area as opposed to the interior where you need more language skills to make your day to day needs understood. The translation apps on the smartphones are a great help but the lag in communicating can be frustrating, especially when the app mangles the translation.

Happy 2018

Be well
